Peaceful Village of Little Wobble

Electrician Proudly Installs Light Switch That Controls Next Door’s Garage

Residents of the normally peaceful village of Little Wobble have been left completely baffled after a local electrician proudly completed a house rewire… only to discover that the lounge light switch now opens next door’s garage door.

The electrician, Barry “Sparky” Bolt, insisted the installation was “technically innovative.”

“I like to think outside the fuse box,” he explained.

“People keep asking for smart homes, so I created a community smart home.

The problem first came to light when homeowner Dennis Pringle attempted to switch on his living room lamp to watch the evening news.

Instead, his neighbour’s garage door slowly rolled open.

Confused, Dennis tried the switch again.

The garage door obediently closed.

After several more attempts, neighbour Colin Briggs appeared outside wearing his slippers.

“Could you stop opening and shutting my garage?” he shouted.

“My lawnmower’s getting dizzy!”

The situation quickly became even stranger.

Investigators discovered that:

  • The kitchen light controlled the neighbour’s security floodlights.
  • The bathroom extractor fan switched on a cement mixer two streets away.
  • The upstairs landing light started someone’s hot tub.
  • The outside security light somehow activated the church bells every Thursday afternoon.
  • Pressing the doorbell caused a nearby Tesla to flash its headlights.

Barry remained remarkably upbeat.

“I’ve created possibilities nobody else has even imagined.”

“It’s not faulty…”

“It’s wirelessly confusing.

The electrical inspection certificate described the work as:

“Highly original. Further investigation strongly recommended.”

When asked how the mistake happened, Barry proudly produced a hand-drawn wiring diagram that appeared to have been sketched on the back of a takeaway menu using three different coloured crayons.

“It’s all perfectly logical,” he insisted.

“You just have to ignore the laws of electricity.”

The neighbours eventually held a meeting to discuss the problem.

Unfortunately, every time someone turned on the hall light, the village pub’s fruit machine started playing.

Things reached their climax when Dennis attempted to boil a kettle.

Half the street’s garage doors opened simultaneously.

Two caravans began reversing.

Someone’s Christmas lights burst into life despite it being July.

And the mayor’s electric recliner unexpectedly stood him upright during an important speech.

Electrical engineers called to inspect the installation were left speechless.

One eventually muttered,

“I’ve been in this profession for thirty-five years…”

“…and I honestly didn’t know this was possible.”

Barry, however, has already launched his next business venture.

He’s advertising himself as Britain’s first “Interactive Community Electrician.”

His new slogan reads:

“Why should your switches only control your own house?”

As Bob prepared to leave, Barry proudly demonstrated his latest installation.

He flicked a single switch.

The lights stayed off.

Three garages opened.

A microwave started in another street.

Somebody’s inflatable paddling pool began filling.

And, somewhere in the distance, a garage band unexpectedly began rehearsing.

Barry folded his arms with satisfaction.

“See?”

“Everything’s working exactly as I planned.”
